I do some power-sector investing. Looking into behind-the-meter power, I had long known about GE Vernova and gas turbines as a choke point. But I have to confess: I completely underestimated them. I thought they were fairly straightforward to make, and not particularly big. Actually seeing one changed that. They are much more complex and interesting than I imagined, and genuinely beautiful. So I made this interactive model to atone for my ignorance.我自己做一些电力相关的投资,之前研究 behind-the-meter 电力时,就知道 GE Vernova 和燃气轮机是一个 choke point。但我得承认,我完全低估了它们:以为这东西没多难做,也没多大。真正看到以后才发现,它们比我想象的复杂、有趣得多,而且真的非常漂亮。所以我做了这个交互模型,算是为自己的无知赎罪。

The model is composable: you can take it apart and zoom into selected components. I also made a separate cooled-blade study. Cooling and protective coatings let these blades work in gas hotter than the alloy's melting point, while keeping the metal itself cooler. I think that is a beautiful piece of design.模型是 composable 的,可以拆开,也可以放大看部分组件。我还单独做了一个冷却叶片的原理模型:靠冷却和防护涂层,叶片能在温度超过合金熔点的燃气中工作,同时让金属本身保持更低的温度。我觉得这是非常漂亮的设计。
